Men Behind the Sun plays Rachael's Cafe

Men Behind the Sun; Rachael's Cafe Tuesday, 8 PM "Men Behind the Sun" sort of sounds like the second half of a Buddhist proverb, although it's actually the title of a 1988 Chinese film about biological weapon warfare and various medical atrocities committed against Japanese POWs.

Papadisio plays the Bluebird

Papadosio; The Bluebird Tuesday, 9 PM Ever wanted to know what would happen if smooth grove and indie electronica hooked up at a party?

Mark Rose plays Rhino's Youth Center

Mark Rose; Rhino's Youth Center Thursday, 8 PM Most people probably haven't heard the light rock/R&B from the singer/songwriter Mark Rose, although the musician has been performing since the 90's.

Mister Lies plays the Bishop

Mister Lies; The Bishop Friday, 11:00 PM The up and coming talent Nick Zanca has created, under his pseudonym "Mister Lies," the ambiguous sound of "avant-garde pop." It's every bit as weird as it sounds, with synthetic riffs spliced with key dabbling and faraway moans; I wouldn't be too misled into believing that there's a bit of Steve Reich in the music of this Chicago-based producer.

Snowmine to play the Bishop

Snowmine; The Bishop Thursday, 9:30 PM If a stray electric guitar plays in the middle of a South American rainforest, does it make a sound?

Waxeater plays the Bishop

Waxeater; The Bishop Friday, 11:58 PM Punk band Waxeater is a bit difficult to classify. They're a little bit thrash, a little bit minimalist, a little bit rock, and a lot of sound: the vocals sound a bit like an extended angry phone call to an ex girlfriend.

Father John Misty plays the Bluebird

Father John Misty; The Bluebird Thursday, 9 PM "It's all of me and none of me, if you can't see that, you won't get it." That's from indie folk star Father John Misty, although he's actually taking it from American literary powerhouse Phillip Roth.

Triptides to play the Bishop

Triptides; The Bishop Tuesday, 9:30 PM With temperatures dipping regularly into the teens and the fresh layers of ice making 3rd street a traffic free-for-all, it's pretty safe to say that we've hit winter.

Disappears to play the Bishop

Disappears; The Bishop Tuesday, 9 PM "Pre-Language", the latest LP out of the Chicago-based rock band Disappears, is hard, piercing, ugly, and beautifully raw.

Sleeping Bag to play the Bishop

Sleeping Bag; The Bishop Friday, 9:30 Not many band names rival Sleeping Bag in terms of dryness (to their credit, this is an evolution from the original name: Whoa Bro Awesome). With deep-voiced moans for lyrics and a heavy guitar beat, Sleeping Bag's sound will be gracing the Bishop tomorrow night for the release show of their brand new album "Women of your Life." The new set is distinctively more confident and traditional than their self-titled or their 2011 release "Adams Demos," with many tracks maintaining a nice, subdued sound. Post by Brandon Cook
