Father John Misty; The Bluebird

Thursday, 9 PM

"It's all of me and none of me, if you can't see that, you won't get it." That's from indie folk star Father John Misty, although he's actually taking it from American literary powerhouse Phillip Roth. Even so, there's no better way to describe the music of the former than with the words of the latter. Father John Misty (the name was chosen arbitrarily) combines a preacher's traipsing lilt with sometimes-experimental, sometimes-folk, and sometimes-acoustic strum to create a musical and spiritual experience. Even his lyrics have the tendency to read sort of like parables. This is from his track "I'm Writing a Novel": I ran down the road/ pants down to my knees/ screaming please come help me/ that Canadian shaman gave a little too much to me. Experience his miracle mesh of sound and story tomorrow night at the Bluebird.
