"Pre-Language", the latest LP out of the Chicago-based rock band Disappears, is hard, piercing, ugly, and beautifully raw. Their sound is expressive and bold, due in no small part to the influence that former Sonic Youth drummer Steven Shelley has had, with vocal pitches from lead singer Brain Case that snarl and mock at every syllable.
