Indiana football secured its highest-rated addition to its 2027 class so far Thursday, as four-star edge rusher Myles Smith committed to the program. Smith announced his decision on the Rivals YouTube channel.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Smith is ranked as the No. 23 edge in the country and the seventh-best player in Michigan, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. He chose Indiana over Michigan, the University of Missouri, the University of Kentucky and the University of Oklahoma.

Indiana first offered Smith in October 2025, and he had an official visit to Bloomington on May 15. He was also in attendance at the Hoosiers’ 38-13 victory over Michigan State on Oct. 18, 2025.

Smith is the first edge rusher and eighth overall addition to Indiana’s 2027 class. He flashed potential at the position as a junior at Farmington High School in Michigan, recording 85 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, six sacks and four forced fumbles.

“Just the scheme-wise, I can play both big end and little end,” Smith said during his live announcement on Rivals’ YouTube channel.  “I feel like I can make an immediate impact wherever I go. Especially if it has to be special teams, I am down with it.  And I just love (defensive ends) coach Buddha (Williams). He’s the guy and the players there are also great.”
