Phoebe Bridgers will come to Bloomington for a pop-up show on May 28 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, according to a social media post from Bloomington community radio station WFHB. The theater posted flyers for the event Thursday morning, the post said. This show is a part of Bridgers’ series of pop-up shows across several cities.

Bridgers’ label Dead Oceans is a part of Secretly Group, a Bloomington-based music company founded in 1996 by IU students.

Bridgers is an indie rock singer-songwriter, known for her debut album “Stranger in the Alps,” released 2017, and her grammy nominated 2020 album “Punisher.” She is also one a member of the indie group boygenius, along with fellow indie artists Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker.

She has collaborated with artists like SZA on “Ghost in the Machine,” Taylor Swift on “Nothing New,” and Kid Cudi on “Lovin’ Me.” Her distinct sound is known to feature autobiographical lyrics with melancholic instrumentals, using her soft vocal delivery to explore themes of loss and love.

Her previous pop-up shows have been held at small venues such as the Radio Room in South Carolina and Duling Hall in Mississippi, offering around 300-600 seats for an intimate surprise performance. These performances have been announced via flyers with little to no advance notice and are designed to be device-free. Bridgers typically plays a mixture of fan favorites from her previous albums and unreleased songs, curating a uniquely raw atmosphere.

These shows mark her first solo performances since 2023.

The Indiana Daily Student reached out to the theater and Bridgers’ touring team, but has not yet received a response.

The theater doors will open at 6p.m. No digital devices are allowed, and lockable phone pouches will be provided.
