Crystal Stilts and many, many others tonight at the Cinemat!

Starting promptly at 9:30 p.m. at the Cinemat, a melange of some of Bloomington's best local bands and two nationally known indie rock bands--Crystal Stilts and Woods--will inject a very much needed dose of rhythm and energy into IU student's week-after-spring-break hangover blues. By Yahya Chaudhry Fresh from playing at South by Southwest (SXSW) musical festival in Austin, both Crystal Stilts and Woods have been recently added to the scheduled performers tonight. Hailing from Brooklyn NY, Crystal Stilts is a minimalist post-punk band consisting of five members: JB Townsend, Brad Hargett, Andy Adler, Miss Frankie Rose and Kyle Forester.

Lost in Bloomington...?

B-Mac If you're a fan of the show LOST -- and we're talking a somewhat obsessive, slightly scary fan -- you may have noticed that there are repeated references to a 1970's band named Geronimo Jackson.

Enter the Dinosaur

B-Mac Hello there, Internets! You're looking nice, if I might say so. Are those several thousand new servers that you have on?

Ra Ra Riot @ Waldron. Tuesday, 3/24.

Tuesday nights are usually a drag. BUT, boredom be gone--the Waldron Arts Center is the place to be this very Tuesday, March 24, as Syracuse, NY's very own chamber pop collective, Ra Ra Riot, will take the stage with opening acts Cut Off Your Hands and Passion Pit. With New Zealand natives Cut Off Your Hands touring with new material from their latest album,You & I, and Massachusetts band Passion Pit coming fresh off of SXSW, the show will be an exciting showcase of some of the indie world's newest up-and-comers. Stealing the night's buzz, however, is Ra Ra Riot, recent label darlings of Barsuk Records, former home of indie mega-stars and April tour mates Death Cab For Cutie. Swirling strings and synth with infectiously melodic indie-pop, Ra Ra Riot have garnered accolades from the likes of Spin Magazine, especially with the release of their 2008 debut, The Rhumb Line, ranked the 38th best album of 2008 by Rolling Stone. Check out live videos of the band here. Spirit of '68 presents 9 p.m. $10 advance/$12 door Facebook'd.

VH1 to Bring Back Behind the Music

I was reading "Fargo Rock City" by Chuck Klosterman today, which is pretty good so far. In the book he mentions an episode of VH1's Behind the Music.

Here We Go Magic, Callers, and Vollmar @ Cinemat

If you didn't already know, I'm kind of obsessed with going to the Cinemat. So, when I say that last night was one of the best shows I've seen there in a while, that's saying a lot. Although the show started an hour late with no more than a handful of people standing around chatting, it was worth the wait. Bloomington based, Vollmar started the night off with Justin Vollmar on vocals and acoustic guitar, and his brother Nathan on drums. The duo played a very quiet, skin and bones set.
