Pair of Amys win NCAA Championship for Hoosiers

After finishing just 3.60 points behind the team of Jessica Parratto (Dover, N.H./Indianapolis, Ind.) and Anna James (Midland, Texas) in the women's 10-meter synchronized diving competition at at the AT&T National Diving Championships at the pool at UCLA, a pair of Hoosiers got their revenge Thursday night. Junior Amy Cozad and IU graduate Amy Korthauer teamed together to win the women's synchronized platform diving competition Thursday night, beating the team of Parratto and James by nearly five points with a score of 295.92. IU junior Logan Kline and sophomore Kate Hillman joined Cozad and Korthauer in the top five by finishing fifth with a score of 219.90. On the men's side of the Thursday's competition, the team of juniors Zac Nees and Mick Dell'Orco finished seventh in the synchronized platform diving, with the team of IU sophomore Connor Murphy and teammate Tanner Wilfong finished eighth. The diving action continues today.

Countdown to fall practice - Damarlo Belcher

DB Kates to transfer

IU defensive back Andre Kates won't return to school and is seeking a transfer, he told the IDS Thursday afternoon. Kates, who was dismissed from the team last year for posting derogatory comments about former coach Bill Lynch on Twitter, practiced with the team last spring and appeared to be on his way back.

Chappell agrees to deal with Redskins

Former IU quarterback Ben Chappell has agreed to terms with the Washington Redskins. A two-year starter, the 6-foot-3-inch, 240 pounds Bloomington native threw for 3295 yards and 24 touchdowns with nine interceptions as a senior last season. Chappell is the second undrafted player from IU to agree to terms with a team since the end of the NFL lockout Monday.

Turner signs with Eagles

Former IU wide receiver Terrance Turner wasted little time after the conclusion of the NFL lockout early Monday agreeing to a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. NFL teams could begin talking to undrafted free agents such as Turner at 6 p.m.

IU recruits on state top 20 list

Rivals.com released their initial ranking of the top 20 football recruits in the state for 2012 and a handful of future Hoosiers made the list. Leading the charge for IU is wide receiver Kevin Davis of state powerhouse Warren Central in Indianpolis at sixth in the state.

Dickerson, Monar selected in MLB Draft

Alex Dickerson and Blake Monar are headed to the big leagues. Both IU juniors were selected by Major League Baseball clubs Tuesday, the second day of the organization's 2011 First-Year Player Draft. Dickerson, whose 47 career home runs ties IU's all-time record, was selected with the first pick in the third round, No.

IDS baseball reporters Kevin Bowen and Drew Allen look at the struggles of the IU baseball team during its seven game losing streak. The guys also look ahead to what IU needs to do in its final three Big Ten series in order to make the Big Ten Tournament at the end of the month.

Hoosiers fall 5-4 to Purdue in extras

FINAL: One earned run was all Purdue needed Friday. The Boilermakers' Sean McHugh hit a line drive to bat in a winning run to claim a 5-4 win against IU in 12 innings at Lambert Field in West Lafayette.

Hureau and Vertesheva Named To First Team All-Big Ten

Sophomore Leslie Hureau and junior Evgeniya Vertesheva earned All-Big Ten honors Thursday after the Hoosiers beat Penn State 4-0 in their opening round match of the Big Ten Championships. Hureau and Vertesheva won the honors for the second-straight year. Hureau, the Hoosiers' No.

'High and Inside' Volume 9

IDS baseball reporters Kevin Bowen and Drew Allen look at what went wrong for the IU baseball team this week after being swept by Minnesota over the weekend and dropping the season series to Miami (Ohio) on Tuesday with a 10-3 home loss. The guys also look ahead to this weekend's series against in-state rival Purdue as well as the Big Ten race coming down the stretch.

2011 guard Abell commits to IU

This from Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier Journal: Eastern High School senior standout Remy Abell has made his college decision. The 6-foot-4 Abell, who was recently released from Bradley University, has given a verbal commitment to Indiana University coach Tom Crean. Abell picked the Hoosiers over Xavier, Western Kentucky, Butler and Penn State. "Indiana is not just getting one player, they are getting a guy that can play three different positions for them and can guard three different positions," Abell's AAU coach Jeff Davis said.

Losing Micah Johnson a blow to Hoosiers

Saturday was not at all a good day for the IU baseball team. Headlining all the negatives from the doubleheader against Minnesota, which included a rain delay in upwards of an hour and two losses (one a 12-1 drubbing), was the loss of sophomore second baseman Micah Johnson early in the second game to a right leg injury. Johnson was attempting to field a one-hop grounder that hit him in the leg and caused him to roll over in pain multiple times.
