FINAL: One earned run was all Purdue needed Friday.
The Boilermakers' Sean McHugh hit a line drive to bat in a winning run to claim a 5-4 win against IU in 12 innings at Lambert Field in West Lafayette. The Hoosiers suffered their fifth straight loss since last Saturday's first game against Minnesota.
Purdue previously had tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on their fourth run on as many IU errors. Both teams finished with 12 hits.
UPDATE: This game is headed to extra innings.
Purdue notched its fourth unearned run in the bottom of the ninth to knot the score at 4-4 after IU senior catcher Wes Wilson hit his third home run of the season to give the Hoosiers a 4-3 lead.
IU trailed 3-2 going into the seventh, when sophomore second baseman Micah Johnson lobbed a single to center field to bat in Wilson for the tying score. The Hoosiers have outhit Purdue 10-9 thus far.
Stay tuned for a postgame update (if it does end soon).
UPDATE: Junior pitcher Blake Monar's ERA today through six innings? Zero. Score? Purdue, 3-2.
The Boilermakers were able to notch two unearned runs on a Cameron Perkins single in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead away from the Hoosiers.
Stay tuned for an update after the game.
Three-inning update: Junior outfielder Alex Dickerson's sixth home run of the season has IU in a 1-1 tie with Purdue through three innings in West Lafayette.
Dickerson hit a two-out solo bomb over the right-field wall in the top of the first inning to give the Hoosiers an early 1-0 lead, but the Boilermakers were able to knot up the score in the bottom of the third when the third-base umpire ruled freshman third baseman Dustin DeMuth erred on a tag-out.
