Former defensive tackle Bass found dead

Former IU defensive tackle Emile Bass was found dead in his Bloomington apartment Tuesday at the age of 26, after suffering an apparent epileptic seizure. A member of the Hoosiers' program from 2005-07, Bass was on 2007 Insight Bowl team.

Bolser cleared to play against Ohio State

IU tight end Ted Bolser announced via Twitter Monday afternoon that he has been cleared to play this weekend against Ohio State. In the Hoosiers' game last Saturday against Michigan State, Bolser was ejected after a fourth quarter punt when he reportedly made illegal contact with a referee.

Zavaleta Collects Three Honors

Sophomore forward Eriq Zavaleta earned his second and third individual awards of the season this morning, College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer announced, respectively, Monday morning. Wednesday night in the Hoosiers' 4-1 win against Kentucky in Lexington, Zavaleta scored twice and assisted on IU's other two goals to help the Hoosiers maintain their immaculate road record (4-0). The Westfield, Ind., native earned eight points against the Wildcats. Saturday night, the Hoosiers improved their Big Ten record to 3-0 with a 2-0 win against Wisconsin.

Huber and Wingfield Win USA Diving Awards

At the United States Aquatic Sports awards banquet in Greensboro, N.C. this past Saturday, Indiana University head diving coach Dr. Jeff Huber and assistant coach John Wingfield were honored. Huber was named the recipient of the 2012 Mike Peppe Award, presented to the outstanding senior diving coach for the fifth-consecutive year and the 12th time in his career.

The view from Indiana Basketball Media Mania

Three things were abundantly clear within minutes at Thursday's annual Indiana Basketball Media Mania: I had not touched a basketball in months, maybe a year. My winter sport growing up was wrestling, not basketball. I was woefully out of shape. I had long been looking forward to this day, a sort of annual rite of passage for media members.

Zeller, Hoosiers on top of Sporting News preseason lists

Tuesday, the Sporting News released its preview guide for the 2012-13 NCAA men's basketball season, and sophomore center Cody Zeller, along with his team, graced the top of the preseason polls. Zeller is currently slated as the 2012-13 College Basketball Preseason Player of the Year as well as a first-team All-American, according to the News.

In recapping the Hoosiers' 1-0 loss against Notre Dame on Sept. 26, Inside Indiana's Zach Osterman reported that IU Coach Todd Yeagley would like his team be willing to take a few "'half chances' rather than laboring too much for an ideal shot." Soffner named Defensive Player of the Week for third time; leads the conference

Luis Soffner earned his third Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor on Monday afternoon. The honor was his second in a row following last week's mention after Soffner shutout Ohio State in the Hoosiers opening conference win. Soffner's third mention tops the conference in number of times a single player has been mentioned as a Player of the Week.

Stone named co-defensive player, co-freshman of the week

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Sarah Stone earned recognition from the Big Ten Monday after IU's victory against Northwestern. Stone received both the Co-Defensive and Co-Freshman Player of the Week, along with Iowa's Hannah Clark, the first Big Ten weekly soccer awards of her career, according to a press release. Stone made her first career start this weekend, leading the Hoosiers to a 1-0 win, their first conference win of the season.
