We just got two statements from IU Media Relations - one from Kelvin Sampson and one from Dan Dakich: STATEMENT FROM KELVIN SAMPSON "I have made the very difficult decision to leave my position as head coach of the men's basketball team at Indiana University.

One of our photographers just overheard a conversation suggesting a press conference is slated for 8 p.m.
ESPN.com is reporting that IU and Kelvin Sampson agreed to a $750,000 settlement earlier today. The settlement will allow Sampson to part ways with the Hoosiers. The site is also reporting that assistant coach Dan Dakich will be named interim head coach after directing today's practice.
We are still awaiting a press conference that some anticipated for 6 p.m. That time and came and passed, but we are still waiting in the Hoosier Room at Memorial Stadium.

The two men spent over four hours in the office Thursday night before Fitzpatrick eventually emerged and darted for the door.
UPDATE: 4:55 CBS' Garry Parrish is reporting that five IU players, White, Gordon, Stemler, Taber and Ahlfeld were told by Rick Greenspan that Sampson would not be finishing the season. Also, the Associated Press is reporting that IU Trustee Philip Eskew Jr., received an e-mail regarding a Friday press conference to address Sampson's future with the program. --- UPDATE: 3:27 PM The Indy Star's Terry Hutchens is reporting that the University is saying that Sampson's status is still to be finalized.
Rich Nye of Channel 13 in Indianapolis citing a source close to the situation, said that the IU administration has contacted assistant coach Dan Dakich about taking over for the remainder of the season. The report also said that the University and Sampson are working on a settlement that will likely be finalized by Friday afternoon.
