First look: Marshall Plumlee and Cody Zeller

Marshall Plumlee has two brothers who will play for Duke next year. Cody Zeller is the younger brother of Luke (Notre Dame) and Tyler Zeller (North Carolina). Both have a ton of potential, and both showed that in Indiana Elite One's first game at the It Takes 5ive Classic on Monday. Though these twin towers are Top 60 recruits, according to Scout.com, neither was overly impressive.

First look: David Williams

David Williams debut in Cincinnat was not a particularly good one. His Atlanta Celtics squad was victorious in their first game of pool play early this afternoon, but the IU commit was a virtual non-factor in the 78-70 win. Williams started both halves on the bench, and did little offensively throughout the 15 or so total minutes he played.

First look: Austin Etherington

Hamilton Heights junior Austin Etherington recently received an offer from IU. The four-star recruit, according to Scout.com, had his chance to play in front of Tom Crean and IU assistant Bennie Seltzer this afternoon. Though teammates Jeremiah Davis and Dee Davis led the way, Etherington flashed signs of lots of potential in Indiana Elite/Team Indiana's 20-point win. Etherington often camped behind the arc, but his outside shot was a bit off today.

First look: Jeremiah Davis

With Tom Crean seated right under the basket, IU target Jeremiah Davis put on quite a performance in an 82-62 win for Indiana Elite/Team Indiana One in their opening game at the It Takes 5ive Classic. Though Crean's top priority for the 2011 class seems to be 5-star point guard Marquis Teague, Davis looks like a good option as well.

To Answer Your Questions...

I saw there were quite a few questions tagged onto the Muniru/Creek post by Osterman. I've done a little research on the Brandon Dawson question and have a few other answers on some other things for you.

Sampson appeal denied

It's been quiet around here for a while, but we now have some news for you. Kelvin Sampson, former IU basketball coach, tried to appeal the infractions he was charged with during his tenure at IU to the NCAA Divison I Infractions Appeals Committee.

Two more Hoosiers turn pro

We've got news on two now-former IU players (well, one former, one now-former, but I'll get to that). First off, Josh Phegley has agreed to terms with the Chicago White Sox, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Schutz signs

Google News searches have failed me for the first time. The Orioles, however, have not failed Kipp Schutz -- they have signed him. The Evansville Courier & Press reported last Monday that Schutz signed with the Orioles, and that he's on his way to the Bluefield Orioles of the rookie Appalachian League. So that leaves just Josh Phegley and Matt Bashore.

Crawford signs

I've spent the last 20 minutes or so texting back and forth with Evan Crawford (aren't cell phones great?), and he confirmed to me that he has in fact signed with the Giants, something I'd been hearing rumored for about 24 hours now. Crawford has in fact signed with San Francisco, and he's leaving to begin his professional career Sunday.

Report: Muniru needs one more class

Our friend Chris Korman of the Hoosier Scoop is reporting that IU recruit Bawa Muniru is completing one class necessary to his being academically eligible to come to IU. Muniru told the IDS during a campus visit last season that he did not expect his academic situation to get in the way of his coming to Bloomington, and his AAU coach, Kerry Johnson, said he believes this class should complete Muniru's high school eligibility. "My understanding is that once he has completed that he will have done everything he needs to do to qualify," Johnson told Korman on Monday.

Arnett agrees to terms

I just got off the phone with Eric Arnett, who has agreed to terms with the Milwaukee Brewers. He'll head to Milwaukee tomorrow, then Helena, Mont., to begin his Major League career. And here is the story, as promised. Got in touch with O'Gara, who said the Marlins are taking the draft-and-follow approach with him this summer, meaning they'll track his progress through summer ball (he's playing for the Cincinnati Steam). That will give them a better indication of how they see him, since he served in several roles -- starter, long reliever, set-up man, etc.

Creek awaiting test scores

Summer Session II starts next Friday, June 19, and most of the 2009 class is expected to be on campus. Bobby Capobianco said he will be there on Monday or Tuesday.

O'Gara, Dunning drafted

Joey O'Gara went in the 31st round to Florida, and Jake Dunning two rounds later to the Giants, thus rounding out the seven-person IU draft class of 2009. I talked to four of the five who were taken in the first two days -- Schutz, Crawford, Phegley and Bashore -- and none of them expressed great signability concerns.
