The IU Police Department received a call in reference to two possible gunshots fired off around 4 a.m. Thursday. Two custodians called in after hearing a possible shot on the northwest side of the HPER building, near Woodlawn Field, said IUPD Sgt. Craig Munroe, reading from a police report.
Well, I am in college now. In fact, I have been here for about three weeks. Obviously, that makes this my first column. And while I have no idea what kind of thoughts will grace this space in the future, now feels like a good time to be introspective about my first college experiences. College definitely hit me fast. I was not particularly sentimental at graduation, and throughout the summer, college did not feel that close. A month or two ago, college was still just an idea to me.
During a newspaper internship this summer in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., I was called to report on national news in a city 45 minutes to the south, where an important court case hung in the balance. The story, like most good stories, began with one person trying to get things changed.
To any informed citizen, 2008 only means one thing: unofficial presidential T-shirts! All election decisions this year can and should be made based on whose campaign merchandise is most in line with your needs. For example, if you support free music downloading, you should vote for Barack Obama in 2008. He has campaign T-shirts that read “Barack and Roll.” Clearly he supports the free trade of music on the Internet. I bet he’s written some bills up in Congress about that, but I’m not going to bother to look. Why do research when all the facts are spelled out on a white ringer-T?
Many of us at IU are not the truest of Hoosiers. That is to say, we come from various backgrounds, many of us from outside the fine state of Indiana, and some native Hoosiers relate more to Chicago than Indianapolis. We’re lookin’ at you, Region Rats. Though we disparage the Hoosier State from time to time, even non-native Hoosiers come to love this fine state of soybeans, basketball, and also, we are told, other stuff. The out-of-staters among us are happy to attend IU, but we understand well that IU, being at least partially funded by the state of Indiana, has a duty to serve specifically the interests of Indiana students.
When senior Brad Yuska arrived to move in at College Park–Campus Corner apartments Aug. 24, it looked as if the former tenants hadn’t moved out.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Crews plan to remove and preserve dozens of hand-cut timbers that once supported a stone culvert as part of the 19th century Wabash and Erie Canal.
Jake was just two weeks past his 18th birthday when he had consensual sex with a 13-year-old girl he had been seeing casually for a few months. Soon after, she accused Jake, now an IU junior, of rape.
MUNCIE, Ind. – A city police officer has resigned following his suspension for crashing his squad car while giving three female Ball State University students a ride.
The IU College Democrats kicked off their year in style Wednesday evening, as about 80 students flocked to question Rep. Baron Hill, D-9th, and to learn more about the group planning to jump start itself in the lead up to the 2008 elections.
In a large, inconspicuous box covered in flower wallpaper, messages of support and concern accumulated precluding the death of IU psychology professor, Bob Weiskopf.
