So you wanted to see Mike Davis take a long walk off a short pier. It didn't look like there was any chance of that happening, so you rubbed your genie lamp with a little extra fervor. And then "voila!," out popped a genie, and he bore a strange resemblance to Charles Barkley. Wait, it was Sir Charles, who looks rather genie-like already. And he was quoted in the Birmingham News as saying Auburn would be the right fit for Davis.

Hot-hitting Hoosiers face Wright State

After a dominating performance this week, which included two victories by a combined total of 42 runs, the Hoosiers (13-7) will take on Wright State in a three-game series this weekend. IU beat Indiana Wesleyan 13-5 Tuesday and easily took care of Chicago State Wednesday, 29-5. Those two wins extended the Hoosiers' winning streak to five games, dating back to their spring break trip.

Hoosiers sweep Indiana State

IU was able to wrack up 18 runs in its doubleheader against Indiana State Wednesday, avenging its eight-inning loss to the Sycamores Feb. 28. The Hoosiers jumped all over ISU in the first game, winning 13-2 in five innings. They were able to fight back from a two-run deficit and score five runs in the fourth inning to win game two 5-2.

Junior improves all-around game

Having the ability to bounce back from adversity is critical in any sport, especially after an unsuccessful season. IU boasts one player in particular who has rebounded from having a poor season last year to being an important member in the IU men's tennis team.

A-Rod hurt against Boston Red Sox

Alex Rodriguez left the New York Yankees' exhibition game against Boston Wednesday night after being hit in the face by a deflected ball at third base. The team said Rodriguez has a bruised left cheekbone, and the CT scan was negative.

IU destroys Chicago St. 29-5

The Hoosiers demolished the Chicago State Cougars 29-5 Wednesday to improve to 13-7 on the season. IU put together an offensive display resulting in 29 runs off of 24 hits. On a day when the wind was blowing heavily out to all sides of the field, the Hoosier hitters took advantage. They combined for six home runs on the day, the highest output this season. Senior David Hughes led the way for IU with a three-run dinger in the third and another two-run shot in the fourth to give him five RBIs on the day. Senior Kevin Mahar hit a grand slam to mark a seven-run fourth inning, as well. The Hoosiers started relatively slow offensively with five runs in the first two innings, but then exploded. Hughes and senior Seth Bynum each had a pair of home runs to help start an eight-run third inning.

Jefferson wins NCAA

Rarely is an NCAA mile won in as decisive a fashion as the one sophomore Sean Jefferson claimed March 14. Grabbing the lead with just over 600 meters left, Jefferson crushed the field -- including reigning 2003 champion, hometown favorite Arkansas' Chris Mulvaney. Crossing the line with arms raised in 4:00.16, Jefferson gave IU its first individual track title since 1993. As he shot a glance up at the massive monitor on the final turn of the NCAA Championships mile, he couldn't believe what he saw.

NIRSA gives two IU seniors national award

Seniors Mandy Madden and Erin Sparks have had their plates full at IU for the past four years. Take Madden for instance: she has refereed for intramural basketball and flag football, as well as indoor and outdoor soccer. At one point, she was the Fitness/Wellness Strength and Conditioning Consultant at the Student Recreational Sports Center and the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

Hoosiers find energy to split double header with Drake

The wind was blowing into the IU softball field Tuesday, but balls were still flying out. The Hoosiers (15-14) split the doubleheader against Drake (14-9), keeping IU one game over .500. Sophomore Mariangee Bogado pitched all seven innings in game one, striking out seven batters. But Bogado's pitching performance wasn't enough to propel IU past Drake, as the Hoosiers fell 3-0 in game one.

IU claws Wildcats 13-5

The Hoosiers' return home was a successful one, as they downed Indiana Wesleyan 13-5. IU secured a firm grip on the game with a five-run first inning, thanks to some wild pitches and good base running. IU coach Bob Morgan said he was happy with the win but not the team's performance.

Men's soccer senior Drew Shinabarger presented President George W. Bush with a personalized No. 1 'Bush' jersey Tuesday as the Hoosiers were among five fall NCAA champions honored by the president on the south lawn of the White House. Other teams honored included Southern California and Louisiana State's co-national champion football teams, North Carolina's women's soccer team and the USC's women's volleyball team.

Woodlawn Field reopened

Hoosiers look to spring into action

When spring break comes to a close, most students find it hard to return home -- except the Hoosiers. After going 4-2 over spring break, the team is ready to return to the comfortable confines Sembower Field for a game against Indiana Wesleyan. The Wildcats come to Bloomington sporting a 2-9 (0-1 MCC) record. IWU has yet to score more than 10 runs in a game, and its biggest victory came over Brescia University, 9-3.

Hoosiers miss dance for first time since '85

INDIANAPOLIS -- During IU's two games in the Big Ten Tournament March 11 and 12, two new heroes emerged for IU. Former walk-ons turned offensive sparks junior guards Ryan Tapak and Mark Johnson led the Hoosiers. Coming off the bench, Tapak had six points and 11 assists while Johnson chipped in with a career-high 13 points in a first round win over Ohio State.

Hoosiers finish 12th at NCAA's

IU Women's Swimming and Diving has finished in the top 16 at the NCAA National Championships the past four years, and this year's competition held to that tradition as the Hoosiers finished 12th at the meet in College Station, Texas.

Hoosiers capture Shootout title

The IU women's golf team headed to Boerne, Texas, during spring break to compete in the Tapatio Springs Shootout, hosted by Baylor University. The 19-team field included four teams in the Golfweek Top 50, including the No. 46 Hoosiers.
