Hoosiers look to spring into action

Team hopes to continue hot streak after 4-2 spring break

When spring break comes to a close, most students find it hard to return home -- except the Hoosiers. After going 4-2 over spring break, the team is ready to return to the comfortable confines Sembower Field for a game against Indiana Wesleyan.\nThe Wildcats come to Bloomington sporting a 2-9 (0-1 MCC) record. IWU has yet to score more than 10 runs in a game, and its biggest victory came over Brescia University, 9-3. \nSenior shortstop Seth Bynum said the Hoosiers won't play any differently against the Wildcats, despite their record.\n"We're going to play them the same way we always play," Bynum said. "We'll be playing 100 percent and we're not going to take anybody lightly."\nWith only five games remaining before Big Ten play is set to begin, the Hoosiers are hoping to finish preparing themselves with games against teams like Indiana Wesleyan and Chicago State. Junior infielder Corby Heckman said the team is constantly trying to improve. \n"We're just trying to get better every day," Heckman said. "We're still trying to get ready for the Big Ten."\nIU coach Bob Morgan said games like this give the team a chance to get younger players some good experience. He also said the team has been playing better than at the beginning of the season.\n"We would've liked to have more wins than we do," Morgan said. "But we're playing better than earlier this season, and we're being more aggressive at the plate."\nBynum continued to heat up over spring break, collecting 13 RBIs in just six games. He now leads the team in RBIs with 28 and has also raised his batting average to a team high .429. Bynum said he believes the team is playing well as a team.\n"I think we're comfortable with where we're at right now," Bynum said. "We're coming together and playing better as a team."\nThe Hoosiers will be sending freshman pitcher Matt Saba (3-0) to the mound to face the Wildcats. Saba leads the team in wins and currently has a 1.23 ERA.\nMorgan said the Hoosiers are looking forward to playing the Wildcats.\n"We're ready to play at home again. We're hoping to build upon what we've done so far this season," he said.\nThe first pitch for the game against the Wildcats is set for 3 p.m. at Sembower Field.\n-- Contact staff writer Cory Steger at csteger@indiana.edu.
