Election still in air as courts deliberate

Chads. Butterfly ballots. Palm Beach County. Two weeks ago, these words were hardly commonplace in dinnertime discussion. But with the presidency hanging in the balance because of voting errors in the Southern Flordia County, many people cannot stop talking about them.

Davis wins first game as head coach

IU's 80-68 victory was a historic game for IU basketball for two reasons: The Hoosiers advance to the second round of the National Invitational Tournament in their first win since coach Bob Knight was fired, and Mike Davis won his first game as IU's head coach.

Sweet Revenge

Interim head coach Mike Davis said he couldn't feel his legs when he walked on the court Tuesday before IU's game against Pepperdine in the first round of the NIT tournament in Assembly Hall. He said he was nervous and was afraid that he would trip over one of the television cables.

Fire guts downtown building

Wednesday, Nov. 15,2000 1:36 a.m.

Bloomington firefighters were called to a two-story stone building in Bloomington's downtown at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to extinguish a fire that consumed most of that building and endangered nearby businesses.

Bennett seeks support at luncheon

Hoosiers hope to upset No. 9 Penn State tonight

The volleyball team is due for a win. They face off tonight against No. 9 Penn State, but the odds don't seem to be on their side. The odds, in fact, sit with the defending national champion and two-time Big Ten defending champion Nittany Lions.

Freshman swimmer could be 'one of the best,' coach says

Freshman Sarah Fiden is everything the women's swimming team could want in a squad member. Her coach and teammates agree Fiden's warm heart and hard work combine to make a competitive swimmer. Coach Dorsey Tierney said she believes that if Fiden continues to train extensively, she will have a bright future.

George Clinton to play Axis nightclub

BET joins Viacom

BET Holdings, Inc. has been purchased by Viacom for $3 billion in stocks. The acquisition means that BET will become the sister network of MTV, MTV2, VH1 and The Box. It also means that BET is no longer under black ownership, although founder Robert Johnson will become a major shareholder at Viacom.

Motorcycle gang looks to heaven

The bushy beards, the bellies, the blue jeans and the black leather vests covered in emblem patches created an intimidating presence. Their motorcycles lined the sidewalk. Mingling with these bikers were men wearing khakis and button-down shirts, women in dresses and skirt-and-blouse ensembles. Everyone in the Rose Firebay Room of the John Waldon Arts Center that day have two things in common: They are all friends of Rich Remsberg, and they were all there to celebrate his book release.

IUSA seeks better meal plan, rape prevention

At its bi-monthly Congress meeting Thursday, the IU Student Association passed resolutions recommending revisions to the meal plan and supporting the administration in the creation of a sexual assault prevention program.
