Update: This story has been updated to include an additional quote from Monshun Sales on the Pat McAfee Show
Before Curt Cignetti’s arrival in late 2023, Indiana football rarely made recruiting headlines. The Hoosiers have never signed a five-star recruit and won last season’s national championship without one on the roster. But Indiana’s turnaround on the field has translated into growing momentum on the recruiting trail.
Indiana landed its first five-star recruit in program history Friday, when wide receiver Monshun Sales announced his decision on the Pat McAfee Show. Sales now headlines the Hoosiers’ 2027 class, which held 16 commitments, including four blue chips, entering Friday.
Ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 8 overall player in the 2027 cycle by 247Sports’ composite rankings, Sales chose Indiana over Ohio State, the University of Alabama, the University of Texas at Austin and Louisiana State University. The Indianapolis-native took official visits to each of those schools over the last three months.
Indiana first offered Sales in April 2024, and the five-star prospect made three unofficial visits before committing, per 247Sports. The first came March 8, 2025, followed by an appearance for the Hoosiers’ 31-7 victory over Wisconsin on Nov. 15, 2025. Sales returned for another unofficial visit Jan. 24, before taking his official visit April 24.
The Lawrence North High School product utilizes his 6-foot-5, 195-pound frame and speed to excel as a vertical threat. As a sophomore in 2024, Sales reeled in 34 catches for 568 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, he totaled 37 catches for 794 yards and nine touchdowns, while averaging 21.5 yards per reception.
With Indiana’s top returning receivers, juniors Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh, projected to enter the NFL Draft following the 2026 season, Sales will be at the forefront of a new-look receiving corps in 2027. He joins three-star recruits Branden Sharpe and Jordan Carrasquillo as Indiana’s wide receiver commitments in the 2027 class.
“It just felt like home since day one,” Sales said about Indiana following his commitment announcement on the Pat McAfee Show. “And I’m just ready to work.”
