Students can’t do year-round school

The IU Board of Trustees approved a summer session tuition decrease two weeks ago to help students take year-round classes and graduate earlier. I’m in favor of anything that saves students money, but there are several things wrong with this plan.

Junior goalkeeper Luis Soffner succeeded for a ninth time this season in shutting out IU’s opponent. The problem was, he didn’t shut out his own teammate, senior Tommy Meyer.

Cross country makes NCAA championships

The men clinched their tournament berth during the weekend with an automatic qualification by finishing second in the 10K NCAA Great Lakes Regional with 70 points. The men finished 20 points behind Wisconsin.

At the “Journey of Hope” musical production Friday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, the troupe Choir 37 proudly displayed diverse African musical traditions.

After junior middle blocker Samantha Thrower managed three straight kills to cap off a five-set Senior Night victory against the Iowa Hawkeyes, the collective feeling of relief could be felt throughout University Gym.


"Why We Sing" gospel conference

Gospel praise envelops IU

Lamar Campbell and other Indianapolis-based gospel musicians were in Bloomington on Saturday for the day-long “Why We Sing: Indianapolis Gospel Music in Church, Community and Industry” conference at the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center. The day concluded with a concert and performance featuring Campbell and a local volunteer choir.

Solo folk musicians sing about politics, pets, personal lives

For the 43rd and final show of her solo tour, Wisconsin singer Anna Vogelzang performed Saturday at The Bishop. She belted her lyrics to an attentive audience despite her fatigue from the night before — she had played in Indianapolis with belly dancers and fire-eaters, she informed her listeners.

Week to focus on world cultures

This week is International Education Week at IU and in more than 100 countries worldwide, an event that was first observed in 2000 and was a joint initiative of the U.S. departments of State and Education, according to the event’s website.
