Jacobs student wins world competition

Three years later, Brian Ciach had his second when that piece, “Piano Sonata 2” tied for first place in the American Liszt Society’s Bicentennial Composition Competition this July. Ciach and his fellow winner, Gilad Cohen of Princeton University, are splitting the $4,000 prize provided by Steinway and Sons.

Staff Editorial: When the weed is away, the Spice will play

In the past six months, eight more states have banned the synthetic cannabinoid known as “Spice.” Now, Indiana’s Spice trade is on the chopping block, with Sen. Ron Alting, R-Lafayette and Rep. John Barnes, D-Indianapolis calling for its prohibition.

The President’s recent rededication to rebuilding the infrastructure, economy and education system in America is praiseworthy. In the second half of his first term, however, Obama will also need to address the divisive issue of exactly who gets access to those benefits of American citizenship and how.

The Scottish Episcopal Church has decided the Christian God is no longer male and is instead “beyond human gender .”   They have removed words such as “Lord,” “He,” “His,” “Him” and “mankind” from services in order to promote this idea. Some ministers have even changed the final blessing, which includes the phrase “Father, Son and Holy Spirit,” to “Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier .”
