Women's soccer looks to bounce back from home loss

The IU women’s soccer team started 6-0 with four home wins in 2009. The Hoosiers did not lose a home game until falling to Penn State 2-1 in late October.

In 2010, the takeoff has been less smooth. In five games, the Hoosiers are 3-2 , including a 3-1 home loss to Nebraska on Saturday.

The Hoosiers will face No. 7 Texas A&M at 7:30 p.m. Friday at home, and the players said the team needs to grow from within to challenge a second consecutive Big 12 opponent.

From a goalkeeper’s perspective, senior Lauren Hollandsworth said communication was necessary in improving the backline performance.

“I think communication is big thing,” Hollandswoth said. “Goalkeepers, defenders and defensive midfielders all need to communicate well so we know what’s around us.”

Texas A&M has a 4-1 record, and Friday’s game is its first road game of the season.
IU will take on Hofstra University at 1 p.m. Sunday in Bloomington. In their last meeting in 2009, IU defeated Hofstra 3-2 in overtime.
