Runners begin season with Indiana Open

The IU cross country team will open its season with the Indiana Open.

The meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday will feature the IU men’s and women’s teams and will include competitors from collegiate club level runners.

IU coach Ron Helmer described it as a “very low-key meet” for the team and said he hopes to use the race to observe progress from his runners.

“For the older people whose training is in tact it’s going to be more of a good, solid workout,” Helmer said. “We’ve got younger people for whom its going to be an opportunity to race hard and show what they’ve got.”

Both the men and women will compete next weekend in the Indiana Intercollegiates meet in West Lafayette.
