It was freezing — I forgot to look at the weather on Sunday morning and ended up wearing shorts and a tank top in 47-degree gloom. Even though the weather was gloomy, the festival was a rousing success.
At nearly 80 degrees, Friday’s midwestern heat edged out to be unbearable. It somehow seemed pleasant, though, with the beautiful music of IU’s Bloomington Delta Music Club, which was putting on its annual BDMC Presents event in Dunn Meadow.
Westhead is one of my favorite local bands, but I had no idea what to expect from this album when I hit the play button. “Double Dares & Fault Lines,” Westhead’s sophomore album, is nothing short of perfection.
Sunday afternoon was wondrously warm. I sat down with my hot chocolate to meet Ahmed Al-awadi, the outgoing president of Music Industry Creatives and one of the minds behind Bloomington’s Burning Couch festival. He brought his peach ginger green tea to the table, adding just a bit of honey.

Artificial intelligence is terrifying. It can write essays, do taxes and even create new “Seinfeld” episodes. What if I told you I had it create a band?
In 2018, it was customary for fashion houses to show 30 to 40 looks — or outfits — per show. Now that number has doubled, with Chanel showing 71 looks and Valentino reaching new heights with 89 looks in their most recent spring collections.

Spring has welcomed a large batch of music releases from local bands. From Too Many Cooks’ dreamy beach-rock track to Fox Body’s grimy grunge-inspired EP, there’s no shortage of creative songs from Bloomington bands. With so much to cover and so little time, let’s dive in.
My favorite movie as a young teenager was “Pretty in Pink.” From Duckie’s effortless charm to Iona’s closet full of wonders, the movie was easy, fun and funny. There are not many modern movies that convey the same romantic comedy tropes without feeling hollow.
