What's next for Willis?

A source told me today that IU running back Darius Willis will not be suspended by the University. Had he been found guilty, Willis would have faced a six-month suspension from the school, meaning he would have missed the entire 2011-12 football season, the source said. Now that his hearing with the Office of Student Ethics has ended, what's next for the former Mr. Football award winner? IU athletics director Fred Glass and coach Kevin Wilson were clearly waiting for this to be resolved before they made any disciplinary moves.

IU baseball earns another late victory

It didn't go into extra innings, but it was another late, grind-it-out win for the IU baseball team. The Hoosiers (6-3) put on a three-run offensive clinic in the eighth inning Saturday en route to a 6-3 win against Tennessee at the Tennessee Tournament in Knoxville, Tenn. Trailing the Volunteers 3-2 in the top of the eighth, freshman Dustin DeMuth hit a one-out triple to represent the tying run.

IU falls to Illinois, 72-48, to close season

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - After the Hoosiers defeated Illinois on Jan. 27, IU coach Tom Crean celebrated by hugging his wife and cheering with the fans in attendance at Assembly Hall. On Saturday in Champaign, though, he walked off with a look of dismay. Crean's team was outplayed on both ends of the floor in Illinois' lopsided 72-48 win at home. The problems for IU began early on and never ceased, as the Illini jumped to an early lead it would never give back. Forward Mike Davis opened the game with a layup and continued his prowess inside - along with fellow senior Mike Tisdale - for the remainder of the half. And with the defense of IU focusing on Illinois' big men, guard Demetri McCamey was left open for mid-range and 3-point jump shots. McCamey led all scorers at half with 16 points, as the Illini went into the locker room with a 46-27 lead after 20 minutes. And while Illinois appeared unable to miss offensively, IU couldn't seem to find the bottom of the net. Rushed and contested shots lead to the team shooting only 39.3 percent in the first half.

Rough Round 2 for Hoosiers at Big Ten Tournament

Today is certainly not playing out the way IU hoped. After Matt Powless was upset in the opening round, all but one wrestler in the championship bracket's second round lost, including upsets of senior Kurt Kinser at 149 pounds and graduate student Ricky Alcala, both to opponents they had previously defeated this season. Freshman Justin Brooks, Mitchell Richey and Ryan LeBlanc each lost as expected to higher ranked opponents. The lone victor in the second round was senior Paul Young at 157 pounds who dominted Colton Salazar of Purdue 13-5 after losing to him two weeks ago.
