It didn't go into extra innings, but it was another late, grind-it-out win for the IU baseball team.
The Hoosiers (6-3) put on a three-run offensive clinic in the eighth inning Saturday en route to a 6-3 win against Tennessee at the Tennessee Tournament in Knoxville, Tenn.
Trailing the Volunteers 3-2 in the top of the eighth, freshman Dustin DeMuth hit a one-out triple to represent the tying run. The next at-bat, senior Wes Wilson capitalized on a fielding error by Tennessee to get on base and bring in DeMuth to tie the game.
With Wilson on base, sophomore Micah Johnson doubled to center field and advanced to third while the Volunteers attempted to tag out Wilson at home. The senior reached the plate safely to give the Hoosiers a 4-3 lead.
Johnson would score on a Matt Serfling single; IU's three runs in the inning came on as many hits.
The Hoosiers would score another run in the ninth to preserve the second win of the season for junior pitcher Blake Monar, whose seven innings pitched were the most by any IU starter thus far in 2011.
IU will attempt to complete the weekend sweep at noon Sunday against Bradley.
