Players have confirmed that the team will practice today at the SRSC instead of the regular practice at Assembly Hall.
10:58: The press conference is over. I was furiously typing so I was unable to give immediate updates.
I had a soccer column ready for Wednesday's paper, but with the new AD hiring, my column will be focused on the future of IU Athletics.
A source confirmed to the IDS late Monday night that Indianapolis attorney Fred Glass will be the next athletics director at Indiana University. A press conference is scheduled for 10:15 a.m.
Although the IU women's soccer team did their part winning their two games over the weekend they still fell just short making it to the Big Ten Tournament due to Illinois defeat over Ohio State.
...at 10:15 a.m. tomorrow morning at the DeVault Alumni Center. According to an release from J.D. Campbell (and I quote) "IU President McRobbie to make major announcement regarding the IU Department of Athletics." No confirmation on the purpose of this press conference, but I think it's fair to say no one will be discussing the wonderful fall weather we've been having. This comes on the heels of a report from John Decker of Hoosier Nation that suggested that in fact a press conference could be held as soon as Tuesday, with employees at the Alumni Center receiving notification that there would be a press conference tomorrow held there. According to Decker, Indianapolis lawyer Fred Glass is the frontrunner, but Scott Dolson and Bob De Carolis are also in the running.
While we wait for an AD decision (see previous posts, as well as linked bios below) I'll inundate you with All Hallow's Eve cheer from Tom Crean.
IU's athletic director search committee has three candidates on its short list, according to an article from the Indianapolis Business Journal. As expected, Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis and IU Asssociate AD Scott Dolson are on the list.
IU isn't expected to win too many games this year, but get ready for some exciting calls like that (hypothetical one) in the above headline.
We've had conflicting reports on when IU will hire its next athletic director. Some sources have told us a new athletic director will be announced next week; others are hesitant to put a timetable on it. Larry McIntyre, IU's director of media relations, said this afternoon that the search for the University's next athletic director "appears to be very close." With IU President Michael McRobbie leaving for China on Oct.
Nothing to lose any sleep over. During Saturday's scrimmage, freshman walk-on guard Daniel Moore played with a protective mask over his face (think Rip Hamilton). We didn't get any details on the injury and the mask didn't seem to bother Moore much. The guard from Carmel finished the afternoon with a team-high 13 assists in 32 minutes.
FINAL UPDATE: The Hoosiers and Buckeyes were tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes of regulation time. But in overtime, sophomore forward Andy Adlard scored on a free kick just outside of the box to give IU the 3-2 victory. The Hoosiers are now 9-4-2 on the season and 2-2 in Big Ten play. --------------------------------------------------------- Just a quick update on the crucial Big Ten game between IU and Ohio State: Though the team finished the first half tied at 0-0, junior midfielder Lee Hagedorn scored his first goal of the year three minutes into the 2nd half to put the Hoosiers up.
Because of losses from Illinois and Wisconsin on Friday night this kept the door open for the Hoosiers to still make the Big Ten Conference tournament.
UPDATE (5:58): The scrimmage is over. It was a fairly competitive game with the Cream pulling ahead in the end, 91-86.
Perfect time for sophomore Leigh Anne Cummings to net her first goal of the season. Cummings goal in the 51st minute was enough for the Hoosiers to defeat the Spartans, Friday night.
This is bizarre. Earlier this morning, it was reported that someone from Isiah Thomas's was taken to the hospital after overdosing on sleeping pills.
Arizona is already feeling the effect of losing legendary coach Lute Olson to retirement. The Wildcats had a Top 10 recruiting class for 2009, with a five-star recruit and two-four star prospects in the fold for next year.
Hey folks, Got pointed to this by one Matthew Brady at IU media relations -- it's a brief paragraph about the best recruiting class in the Big Ten.
