Indiana baseball’s assistant coach Denton Sagerman accepted a job in the Cleveland Guardians organization June 28, per a release from Indiana Athletics. Sagerman departed the Hoosiers after spending eight years on their coaching staff.

Prior to Sagerman’s tenure in Bloomington, he was the Director of Baseball Operations and Analytics at Wright State University for two seasons. Sagerman joined current Indiana head coach Jeff Mercer from Wright State after he took the Hoosiers’ skipper role in July 2018.

During Sagerman’s eight-year term, the Hoosiers went 230-180-1 and109-91 in the Big Ten. Indiana won the Big Ten regular-season title in 2019 but fell short in the conference tournament before losing in the Louisville Regional. In 2023, Indiana lost in the Lexington Regional. During the 2024 season, the Hoosiers were defeated in the Knoxville Regional.

Sagerman assisted Indiana’s pitching staff in 2022, which recorded 600 total strikeouts. The rotation was led by right-handed pitcher Jack Perkins, who was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the fifth round of the 2022 MLB draft.

Perkins is one of six former Indiana players currently in the MLB. This season, the Kokomo, Indiana, native has started five games and is 3-2 with a 6.00 ERA for the Athletics.

The Hoosiers have yet to announce any further coaching changes.
