Mells to leave women's basketball team

Maybe there was something to the midseason suspension of sophomore guard Ashlee Mells after all. Mells, who averaged 4.1 points in 27 appearances this season for the Hoosiers, will leave the team, IU Athletics confirmed Tuesday. Mells was suspended for three games during the season as a result of a dispute with coaches in practice.

Freshmen get experience for IU men's golf team

The IU men's golf team had the weekend off from team competition, but freshmen John Beringer, Michael McGee and Corey Ziedonis played as individuals in the BSU Cardinal Collegiate in Jasper, Ind. Beringer, who hasn't played in a tournament during his freshman campaign, led the way with rounds of 73, 74 and 73 for a fourth place finish. Next up was Ziedonis in 19th place, who opened up with a pair of 76's before closing with a 73 in the final round. In 47th place individually was McGee, shooting rounds of 77, 78 and 79. All three players should remain in contention for the four and five spots in the lineup as we move towards the stretch run of the season. The Hoosiers will hit the links again this weekend at the adidas Hoosier Invitational, played at the IU Golf Course.

Washington wins controversial 3A title

In a two-and-a-half hour contest and one of the most poorly officiated games I've ever seen, Washington defeated Gary Wallace 65-62 en route to the Hatchets' third championship in six years.

1A in the books

Bowman Academy defeated Barr-Reeve 74-52 in the 1A title game, which ended about half an hour ago. Bowman is the most talented team in 1A in quite a while; and maybe ever in my mind.
