What the hooka?

·

Last week, I was invited to what I thought was called an "acoustic hookah" concert and, of course, I agreed. How can anyone turn down an offer to go to an acoustic hookah concert? The only problem was that I had no idea what a hookah was. I assumed it to be some kind of long, tribal horn used by the Flintstones, but this is probably because my brain was eaten away by watching too many cartoons growing up. So I wasn't exactly sure what a hookah was, but I do like orchestras for the most part, so I knew it couldn't be that bad.

Profiting off of Terrorism

·

You can see it everywhere you look, and with good reason. It is noticeable in the flags that hang in the windows of apartments and dorm rooms, in the pins that are worn on bags or shirts of students around campus or the flags that fly from car antennas. It's patriotism, tried and true, and with the actions that our country has been involved in during the past month and more, it is definitely deserving. One might even argue that this patriotism is something that should be more evident year-round, not just when our country or troops are in danger. After all, we have lots to be proud of, but that is a topic for another column.

Federal building renamed

·

There is one federal office building in the 9th Congressional District. And what was once a place of federal business now also serves to commemorate the hard work and diligence of former Rep. Lee Hamilton. President George W. Bush signed a bill into law this week renaming the New Albany, Ind., building the Lee H. Hamilton Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse. After 34 years of distinguished service for Indiana in the House of Representatives, Hamilton now serves as the director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center in Washington and as the director for IU's Center on Congress.
