Rocker Townshend cleared of possessing child porn

LONDON -- Rock guitarist Pete Townshend, co-founder of The Who, was cleared Wednesday of possessing pornographic images of children but still was placed on a national register of sex offenders. That registration was part of a formal police caution Townshend received for accessing a Web site containing images of child abuse.

Sketchbook features Bloomington

Bloomington has been chosen to be the focus of Indigo Custom Publishing's third addition to its City Sketchbook Series. The Bloomington Sketchbook will showcase the history, beauty, and traditions of the Bloomington community. The book will be a compilation of paintings of Bloomington landscapes, architecture, famous homes, downtown, parks, local events, festivals, and other scenes unique to the city residents' lifestyles.

It was said of pianist Marvin Chandler, allegedly by his mother, "all you had to do was tell him what you wanted him to play and sing, and he took right off." Chandler attended Bloomington's Banneker School from grade one through eight. All Bloomington's African-American elementary and middle school students were required to attend Banneker from 1916 until 1955, when it became Bloomington's Westside community center.

Sorkin leaving 'West Wing'

LOS ANGELES -- Aaron Sorkin, creator of the Emmy-winning White House drama "The West Wing," is leaving the series after this season, he said Thursday. Sorkin, who was involved in writing most of the scripts for the NBC series, also served as executive producer. Thomas Schlamme, another executive producer, also is leaving.

'Noise/Funk' steps it up

Winner of four 1996 Tony Awards, "Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk" will play at 8 p.m. tonight and Wednesday at the IU Auditorium. The show uses tap dance to illustrate and celebrate the history of African-Americans. It is a journey through the colonial era, the Civil War and the present using tap, poetry, lighting, song and percussion.
