Gallery uses music to connect with visitors

Multimedia show highlights work by IU faculty, students

Nine art displays by IU faculty, alumni and Indianapolis artists and music by DJ Ionman from WFHB were featured in "Lounge" at the School of Fine Arts Gallery Friday night.\nThe event highlighted numerous forms of media art, including video, film projection and 3-D art. \n"The pieces are all really nice," said senior Ryan Jones. "There are a lot of interesting things you don't usually see on video."\n"Lounge" organizers wanted to create a multimedia exhibit that allowed guests to view the various pieces of art in a comfortable, relaxed setting.\nAdministrative coordinator Andrea Rettig helped with the setup, lighting and furniture arrangement for the show. \n"The environment we've created is really successful," she said. \nArtists displaying works at Lounge included IU faculty Arthur Liou, Peter Suchecki, Margaret Dolinsky, IU alumnus Barry Anderson, and the Indianapolis-based artist group Primary Colors.\nMany of the artists were on hand at the gallery. Jim Manion, also the DJ for the event, presented his video art.\nManion, an IU alumnus, became interested in different ways of using video equipment during the 80s and early 90s. He was originally slated to serve as DJ at the art show, but when he found out the type of art that was to be displayed he contacted the gallery to include his own art in the show.\n"I'm really happy to be involved," he said. "I'm honored. It's great to be displayed with all these other great artists."\n-- Contact staff writer Jenny Kobiela at jkobiela@indiana.edu.
