Annette & Luke play Bear's Place
Annette & Luke; Bear's Place Thursday, 11:00 PM There's something about performing siblings that will, if you're like me, make you cringe.

Saul Conrad; Bear's Place Tuesday, 11 PM Saul Conrad can probably stop time. His acoustic riffs, light as airbrush strokes, and his lyrics, poised between poetry and folk ballad, inhabit that region of space where you completely forget the passing of the minutes.
Buttonhoof; The Bishop Friday, 11:59 PM Buttonhoof, from the "honest flats of Southern Indiana," sort of makes you think of a Midwest Monty Python skit that got out of hand.
Pokey LaFarge; The Bishop Thursday, 9 PM Humor us for a minute and imagine that you are in the early 20th century.
BoomBox; The Bluebird Thursday, 9 PM Spotify the band "BoomBox" and the first thing you're likely to see are a number of tracks written out in bastardized Cyrillic.
For the week of 2/11 through 2/17/2013 1. Bryan Ferry Orchestra, The Jazz Age (BMG) 2. Jim James, Regions of Light & Sound of God (ATO) 3.
Mike Mains & The Branches; The Bishop Wednesday, 9:30 PM Complete with a self-deprecating band biography and a dapper aesthetic, Mike Mains & The Branches aim to win a few dozen more hearts in Bloomington.
The Silverhounds; Rachael's Cafe Tuesday, 9:30 PM The Silverhounds express a range of interests from "music, mayhem, and mammaries" to "beats, booze, and booty." This Tuesday night, the colorful bunch of New Brunswick natives will storm Rachael's Cafe with psychobilly sounds and a sweaty, aggressive stage presence.
Austronautalis; The Bishop Tuesday, 9 PM "[Austronautalis] is an American song and dance man," reads the self-description on the musician's Tumblr page.
Pandora Celtica; Bear's Place Monday, 9 PM In the tradition of high fantasy/faerie Celtic music, few bands can quite measure up to Pandora Celtica.
It's been said once but it's worth saying again: we here at the Live Buzz, for all of our music smarts and witty articles, are really nothing more than a bunch of helpless, geeky romantics.
For the week of 2/4 through 2/10/2013 1. Jim James, Regions of Light & Sound of God (ATO) 2. Thee Open Sex, S/T (Magnetic South) 3.
Moor Hound; The Bishop Tuesday, 9 PM There's something remarkable about the new LP by Moor Hound: "Stifled Spirit," that makes you see your surroundings in a montage of blurry images, as though someone were flashing you bright pictures for only as long as it took you to recognize something real about them.
Blackberry Smoke; The Bluebird Tuesday, 9 PM If you're looking for country rock, you can't really ask for much more than what Blackberry Smoke has to offer.
For the week of 1/28 through 2/3/2013 1. Local Natives, Hummingbird (Frenchkiss) 2. Foxygen, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic (Jagjaguwar) 3.
The Audacity of Youth; Rachael's Cafe Wednesday, 8 PM If you can imagine the backdrop of all those scenes from the gritty, disconcerting movies, either right before the hero discovers the mangled remains of his best friend, or right before the serial killer nabs another kill, you will be close in nailing the electronica of Bloomington natives "The Audacity of Youth." They've only had one LP released, "Departed," but the disturbing, slow-draw tension is something that begs a sequel.
The dark hovel with bear-smeared tabletops and single-bulbed wall lights on the corner of 3rd Street and South Jordan, known as Bear's Place, is the perfect venue for a band like Mobley that demands to be both seen and heard. Although one may mistake the backroom of Bear's Place for a kind of underground rock garage, there's a distinct coziness about it made all the more poignant by its poor lighting, the bitter chills that would come sweeping in from outdoors, and the fact that the audience could boast no more than a dozen. It didn't matter.
For the week of 1/21 through 1/27/2013 1. Thee Open Sex, S/T (Magnetic South) 2. Foxygen, We Are The 21st Century Ambassadors Of Peace & Magic (Jagjaguwar) 3.
The Helio Sequence; The Bishop Thursday, 9:30 PM "Warm, organic, ethereal;" all the elements of The Helio Sequence's fifth studio album "Negotiations" sound pretty much perfect for these drizzly, cold, thoroughly miserable winter months.
Mobley; Bear's Place Wednesday, 8 PM There's definitely something sensual about Mobley. You could argue that it's the cool jazz swing of their beats coupled with the sway of the powerful (and provocative) lyrics.
