Saul Conrad; Bear's Place

Tuesday, 11 PM

Saul Conrad can probably stop time. His acoustic riffs, light as airbrush strokes, and his lyrics, poised between poetry and folk ballad, inhabit that region of space where you completely forget the passing of the minutes. Listen to the first track, Bonfire Blues, from his debut album "Poison Packets" and you'll see what I mean. Conrad's lilt, charged with meaning and demanding the listener's attention, develops metaphor by simply heaping on more, sustaining listener curiosity rather than exhaust his attention. Expectation is forever suspended; you wait for a resolution that doesn't quite come, but you're okay just basking in the tune. Catch him tomorrow night at Bear's Place.
