Time for some final football predictions- We want to hear from YOU

Outside of the local media, nobody seems to be giving the IU football team any respect. Until the Hoosiers have that one good season and begin to turn things around, people are going to continue to be skeptical, and I understand that. With that being said, it's time for some final predictions as IU prepares to kick off the season tomorrow night against Towson at Memorial Stadium.

In today's issue

About 34 hours until football season kicks off. Has tailgating started yet? OK, if not, check out these stories from today's IDS sports section: The IU football team will be mixing in the 3-4 formation to its defensive scheme this year, football beat reporter Connor O'Gara writes. A good freshmen class and a new coaching staff means positions aren't guaranteed - even for regular starters on the men's soccer team, soccer reporter Kevin Loughery writes. Kevin Wang previews the women's soccer home opener against Western Michigan. IU announced the 2010-11 women's basketball schedule.

Lynch is right to hold Doss out

While you never want anyone to be injured and miss time, IU coach Bill Lynch made the right call when he decided to hold star wide receiver Tandon Doss out of Thursday night's opener against Towson. Yes, it's finally football season again and everybody wants to see one of the Hoosiers' best player on the field.

Volleyball Captains selected

IU Coach Sherry Dunbar picked senior middle blocker Taylor Wittmer and junior libero Caitlin Cox as the season Captains. Wittmer was selected for her consistency, playing in 55 matches over the last seasons. Cox broke IU's single season record for digs last season with 488. Cox has to be vocal playing the libero position and although she isn't tall like the other blockers, she is heard throughout the court. IU hosts the Adidas Classic this weekend and begin their home opener with Arkansas State this friday at 7 pm in the University Gym.

Best case/Worst case for IU

Former IDSer and current ESPN blogger Eamonn Brennan layed out his best and worst case scenarios for each Big Ten team today, and he isn't too optimistic on the Hoosiers' upcoming season. Brennan expects big things from the usual suspects (Maurice Creek, Christian Watford, Verdell Jones), but he says fans shouldn't expect a .500 season. At one point in his best case analysis, Brennan writes "forward Tom Pritchard crashes the offensive glass," which caught my attention the most.

Surprises from Lynch's depth chart

The Hoosiers released their first depth chart of the season early Monday and there are several surprises. Most glaringly, star wideout Tandon Doss isn't even listed, a sign that he won't play in Thursday night's season opener against Towson.

Doss likely out for opener

IU coach Bill Lynch said if star wideout Tandon Doss plays against Towson in Thursday night's opener, it will be on a limited basis.

Will IU play in bowl game?

In today's issue of the IDS, football columnist Justin Albers guarantees the IU football team will win at least six games and play in a bowl game this season. Albers lists contests against Towson, Western Kentucky, Akron and Arkansas State as "built-in wins" and points to Northwestern, Illinois and Michigan as beatable Big Ten opponents. Do you agree with the Albers Angle?

How good is IU offense?

This is a topic I have debated with people lately and there is no clear consensus. I will probably do a column on this subject in the near future, but I wanted to get your opinion. With fifth-year quarterback Ben Chappell, running back Darius Willis, and a wide receiving core that includes Tandon Doss and Demarlo Belcher, will this offense be one of the best in the Big Ten?
