From tennis beat reporter Joe Popely, who worked on several stories concerning the men's tennis team. Popely recently talked to coach Randy Bloemendaal about the team's new assistant coach:
Bolstering Bloemendaal's coaching staff is the recent addition of assistant coach Milos Popovic, who comes to IU after two years as a volunteer coach at the University of Tennessee.
"He demands excellence day in and day out," Bloemendaal said of Popovic. "He supports what's going on here and understands the big picture of what we're trying to accomplish."
A member of the University of Nevada tennis team from 2003-2006 who finished eighth all-time at Nevada in singles victories and second in doubles victories, Popovic played a major role this past season in helping the Volunteers finish runner-up at the ITA Indoor Championship, win the SEC title and finish runner-up at the NCAA tournament, according to Bloemendaal.
"Milos did an outstanding job last year with Tennessee," he said. "He's one of the major reasons why they had such a successful season. On the court, in practice and behind the scenes in the office, he did lots of thing to move that program forward and finish national runner-up"
