The Hoosiers released their first depth chart of the season early Monday and there are several surprises.
Most glaringly, star wideout Tandon Doss isn't even listed, a sign that he won't play in Thursday night's season opener against Towson. IU coach Bill Lynch told the media Sunday that if Doss does play, it will be on a limited basis. Doss has missed the last week of practice with a groin injury.
Doss' absense is good news for redshirt freshman Duwyce Wilson, who has impressed the coaching staff during the summer. Wilson will have the opportunity to show what he can do with Doss out, an opportunity he desperately needs as a young guy in a group of experienced and talented receivers.
Kofi Hughes, a 6-foot-2 freshman receiver from Cathedral H.S. in Indianapolis, is listed in the No. 2 spot behind Demarlo Belcher. Hughes has obviously impressed Lynch because he is the only true freshman on the entire depth chart.
Senior Mitchell Evans is getting the nod at strong safety after moving over from offense. He was the Hoosiers' wildcat quarterback and saw time at wide receiver in 2009.
