Nees, Schmuhl earn Big Ten honors after meet vs. Michigan

Despite Indiana's loss during Saturday's swimming and diving meet to No. 4 Michigan 166-130, junior diver Zac Nees earned Big Ten Diver of the Week honors, and freshman swimmer Steve Schmuhl earned IU's first ever Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in the losing effort. During the diving portion of the competition, Nees continued his high level of performance he has had throughout the season, as he won the 3-meter dive event with a score of 384.00, and later finished third in the 1-meter dive only behind teammates Mick Dell'Orco and Darian Schmidt.

IU adds running back to 2012 class

Three-star recruit Tevin Coleman became IU's 24th member of IU Coach Kevin Wilson's 2012 recruiting class Tuesday, according to Peegs.com. The Oak Forest (Ill.) High School product received offers from other Big Ten teams like Michigan State, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Purdue. Rivals.com rates Coleman as the 37th-ranked running back in the country, and is currently the seventh-ranked Big Ten running back commit, while ESPN.com ranks him as the 133rd running back in the country.

What we learned: IU vs. Penn State

Some people are going to call that an ugly win. While IU squeaked out a six-point win in Happy Valley, two months from now, nobody will remember anything but a W. It's IU's first Big Ten road win in nearly two years, a streak that is just as bad as it sounds.

Keith Smart takes over Sacramento Kings

Former IU basketball player Keith Smart is back in the head coaching role of an NBA team just two weeks into the start of the season. The Sacramento Kings fired head coach Paul Westphal on Thursday after a 2-5 start and bumped Smart up from assistant to interim head coach. Last season, Smart was the head coach of at Golden State and led the Warriors to a 36-46 record before being fired following the season. This marks the second time Smart has been named as an interim coach during the season.

Hoosiers name Seth Littrell Offensive Coordinator

After a few days of speculation, IU Coach Kevin Wilson named former Arizona Offensive Coordinator Seth Littrell to the same post on the IU squad. "We received a large amount of interest from a talented pool of applicants, but I kept coming back to Seth," Wilson said in a press release from IU Athletics.

Tom Crean his coaching staff rang in the New Year with their third commit of the 2013 class as 6'1o" forward Luke Fischer committed to the Hoosiers after the Ohio State game Saturday evening. Fischer hails from Germantown, Wisc.

What we learned: IU vs. Ohio State

Wow. Who would've thought that IU's two top ranked opponents would fall victim to the Hoosiers? To put that in perspective, IU had beaten just two ranked opponents total before this season.
