Former IU basketball player Keith Smart is back in the head coaching role of an NBA team just two weeks into the start of the season.
The Sacramento Kings fired head coach Paul Westphal on Thursday after a 2-5 start and bumped Smart up from assistant to interim head coach.
Last season, Smart was the head coach of at Golden State and led the Warriors to a 36-46 record before being fired following the season.
This marks the second time Smart has been named as an interim coach during the season. Back in the 2002-2003 season, Smart took over the Cleveland Cavaliers and finished the season with a 9-31 record as head coach.
Prior to the start of this NBA season, Smart returned to Bloomington as the 1987 National Championship was honored during the Stetson game.
The task for Smart now becomes trying to lead the Kings out of the bottom of the Pacific Division and help improve a league worst's 102.4 points allowed per game.
