Amongst speculation about replacing former Co-Offensive Coordinator Rod Smith, IU Athletics released a statement today about a coaching change on the staff -- but on the defensive side of the ball.

The statement from IU Athletics read:

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana head football coach Kevin Wilson announced today that defensive ends coach Brett Diersen has resigned his position effective immediately.

"We appreciate Brett's service and wish he and his fiancee Jenna the best," Wilson said. "We will move forward quickly in making a quality hire that will further strengthen our staff."

During Diersen's only season at IU, the Hoosiers ranked tenth in the Big Ten with 18 sacks in 12 games, with 3.5 of those sacks coming from full-time defensive ends.

Diersen also served as the recruiting coordinator for IU. It has not been announced who will replace him in that position.
