'I'm Back': Cassidy Kahn bundle
Junior Cassidy Kahn was told she would never dive again, but she wouldn't allow it. Prescribed with the flesh-eating disease necrotizing fasciitis, Kahn faced a painful reality she could never walk again or, even with the best preventions, die. IU trounces UT-Martin, 80-46
IU showed no mercy against a weaker opponent, routing the University of Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks 80-46 to improve to 6-3 on the year. It was the Hoosiers' largest margin of victory, most points scored and least points allowed in any game this season. Four players reached double figures, led by junior guard Jori Davis with 19 points.

Watford credited with two of VJIII's points
This year's IDS basketball guide was entitled "Take Two." Apparently statisticians took two last night - points that is, from IU sophomore Verdell Jones. Late in last night's game, ESPN flashed a small graphic that credited Jones with 20 points.

IU trumps Pitt, 74-64
NEW YORK - Sophomore guard Verdell Jones drove with a determined look on his face before turning on his pivot foot to drain a midrange jump shot. The basket gave IU a 45-37 lead against Pittsburgh, its biggest of the game at that point, as "Hoo-Hoo-Hoo-Hoosiers" chants rang from the Madison Square Garden crowd. The passion the Hoosiers had become known for was on display, and they rode it to a 74-64 win. "It really feels good to finally get that win," Jones said.

Latest on head coach vacancy
The athletics department still holds its ground in not officially disclosing the names of candidates to be interviewed for the vacant IU men's soccer team head coaching job, however, AD Fred Glass expects a decision to be made by the first of the year. "It's more important to get it right then get it fast," he said in a phone interview Tuesday.

IU's student section name selected
IU Athletics has selected the name for the Assembly Hall student section. The group will be known as the Crimson Guard. Here is what Senior Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing Pat Kraft told the good people at IUHoosiers.com : The students are what makes Assembly Hall such a special place, and after tallying thousands of votes they have decided their own name for the best student section in the country.

Weeg leaves volleyball team
Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Weeg has left the IU volleyball team, a source confirmed. Weeg appeared in seven matches this season but didn't see much action once the Hoosiers (17-17, 6-14) began the Big Ten schedule. The Cincinnati native registered six kills at a .417 hitting percentage this season.

Swimmers compete at US Short Course Nationals
Kate Fesenko earned two individual titles this past weekend at the U.S. National meet in Federal Way, Wash. She won the 100-yard backstroke title with a time of 52.70 seconds.

Divers finish strong at Ohio State Invitational
In the last diving meet before the new calendar year senior diver Amy Korthauer won the platform title at the Ohio State Invitational. She finished with a final score of 294.25 points. Heidi Mahnken finished third with a score of 240.25.
