Salvation Army provides after-school program for local low-income families

·

Monroe County’s average household income is about $10,000 less than the Indiana average, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. It’s no wonder, then, why the Salvation Army of Monroe County would pride its Child Care Connection program on being cost-efficient while still providing many services to the children of the community. The Christian-based organization opened a new addition to its program in January: after-school child care.

You’ll miss us when we’re gone

The American public has always had a love-hate relationship with the media. At IU, the student newspaper has been referred to for decades as the Indiana Daily Stupid. You can make fun of us all you want, but we know there would be a gaping void in your life if we weren’t there to provide that daily crossword puzzle during your economics lecture.

Pre-teen techies

·

While watching the Hannah Montana movie in theaters last weekend I found myself disgusted. Obviously it wasn’t the film, which was one of the better movie experiences of my life. It was the audience. Spring break planning

Earlier today as I was climbing up the stairs to my apartment, I slipped on an ice pool, or as the tenants nearby like to call it, the IP. Everyone who has approached my apartment must be warned of the IP because it is never-melting and is nearly impossible to see unless you’re looking for it.

Silver bubble

Why "The O.C." still matters

·

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of one of the saddest days ever for pop culture junkies of this millennium: the end of “The O.C.” Yes, “The O.C.” was a fluffy teen soap that went from phenomenon to complete trainwreck seemingly overnight.

Students repack food for needy

·

Members of the African Student Association and IU professor Vicky Getty’s nutrition class spent Friday evening volunteering at the Hoosier Hills Food Bank, a local organization that repackages prepared food donated by local restaurants and cafeterias. Groups of volunteers meet at the food bank on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings every week to scoop hundreds or even thousands of pounds of food into four-serving bags, which are then sold in bulk to local non-profit organizations such as soup kitchens, emergency shelters and food pantries.
