No Hep, no set QB for SIU matchup

·

With news that IU coach Terry Hoeppner recovering with his family following brain surgery, the dark cloud hovering over the Hoosier football program faded away some Wednesday. And with its third game of the season coming up Saturday against Southern Illinois University, the IU football team (2-0) is not letting its coach's surgery be a distraction.

Sexism back?

·

I'm bringing sexy back. (Yeah!) Them other boys don't know how to act. (Yeah!) I think it's special what's behind your back. (Yeah!) So turn around and I'll pick up the slack. (Yeah!) Take 'em to the bridge!" Oh, Justin Timberlake. As a college student, dance parties on the weekends with my dormmates have become a personal obsession. Even though I love getting down to ridiculous songs, after hearing "SexyBack" one too many times, I decided that it would be appropriate to analyze it and then tear it apart.

You've got to circle the wagons, Coach Lynch

·

Dear Coach Lynch, I come to you as an IU student and a self-proclaimed voice of the fans. The last few days have been tough on us, Coach. Our hearts and prayers are with coach Terry Hoeppner and his family, but our minds are fixed on this Saturday. Anyone basking under the Bloomington sun knows the Hoosiers need to win all four of their nonconference games this season. Behind four straight wins, this team could drive its Believe Train head-on into the Big Ten schedule -- making stops only to mark victories.

Long live YouTube

·

I love YouTube. I love YouTube the same way I loved Napster when I first stumbled upon it as a pre-teen. Now, as a teen in my prime, instead of downloading music, I can watch all kinds of videos. I don't even have to wait for them to download. With YouTube, I can instantly watch live clips from my favorite artists, catch memorable moments from the talk shows I fall asleep to and find full episodes of classic childhood television programs.

Students debate Wiki

·

Professors might be divided on it, but students seem to approve of Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia anyone can edit. Though few faculty members said they would discourage their students from using Wikipedia altogether, many take issue with students citing Wikipedia articles in academic papers.

We got it wrong and we're sorry

·

We made a mistake Wednesday night. In fact, it was one of the biggest mistakes a newspaper can make. In a story about a student who was arrested and hospitalized after an incident with a fraternity and a police squad car, we got the student's name wrong.

IU has Carolina on its mind in weekend set

·

Offense wins games, and defense wins championships, according to an old coaching cliche. This saying applied to the IU women's soccer team last weekend when it won two games on three goals by senior forward Carrie DeFreece and its defense shut out Northern Arizona University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to earn IU the Old National Bank Hoosier Classic Championship.
