Roth works to fill offensive void

It wasn’t the typical way for Matt Roth to get going. Roth got an open look from 3-point range, the place he had scored 82 percent of his points. But instead of pulling the trigger, Roth saw Penn State guard Nick Colella closing out on him and pump-faked. He got Colella in the air, drew the foul and knocked down three free throws for a five-point lead at halftime.

Column: Why I couldn’t care less about the NBA this year

Most years, I eagerly anticipate the start of the NBA season. This year, though, thanks to the lockout, early November came and went with no NBA action, and I hardly noticed or cared. The lockout brought out the worst in a lot of people. Empty threats were bandied about by two sides, both already wealthy, squabbling about money.

IU student arrested, charged

IU student was arrested at 3 p.m. Tuesday at his apartment in Smallwood Plaza and will be charged with dealing in a schedule IV controlled substance, a Class C felony.

Right-to-work bill causes deadlock in Statehouse

The right-to-work bill  would make it a Class A misdemeanor for employers to require union membership. It would make Indiana the 23rd right-to-work state and has been fraught with controversy since it was first considered last spring.

SOFA faculty, lectures change

Friends of Art, an organization that supports IU School of Fine Arts (SoFA) students, will have its 26th annual Fine Arts Library Benefit Dinner at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Fine Arts Library. This year, Associate Professor Bret Rothstein of the History of Art Department will present a lecture titled “Playful Objects.”
