Failing lab safety

Recently, employees in university research facilities across the country have been exposed to bubonic plague, monkeypox and anthrax. In another case, Texas A&M has been scrutinized for the security (or lack thereof) of its biological agents in biodefense labs. Overall, these events are just a few of the more than 50 incidents involving agents that are federally regulated microbes and toxins. According to the Government Accountability Office, in 2007 alone, there have been 37 incidents through August.

Me like sports

Recent reports to The Leading Edge’s investigatory team (which includes my mother and CNN’s Nancy Grace) indicate increased activity over the weekend on campus. Not wanting to let such reports go unchecked, I combed the city for clues of the alleged activity. After painstakingly examining every possible piece of evidence in the style of a true crime scene investigator wannabe (gosh, Gil Grissom on “CSI” is so cool!), I can safely conclude that something of significance did, in fact, take place this past weekend. Apparently much of what occurred centered around some sort of athletic contest.

I have a little brother. He is 14 years old, a freshman in high school and actively involved in sports and social activities. He’s a popular kid with an extensive, mixed-gender group of peers, and I really don’t ever want to think of him having sex. Ew, he’s still just a little boy. Frankly, no one in an authority position wants to think about the sexual lives of young teens and pre-teens, because they are children and we want to believe they are still behaving as children.

With silver buckets of incense burning behind the stage and an elaborate introduction, Bob Dylan took the stage at Assembly Hall on Friday night with his band members – all of whom were dressed in black, with Dylan looking like he was straight from an old Western movie. Elvis Costello, who also helped kick off Homecoming weekend, performed solo prior to Dylan and his band. Amos Lee opened the show with blues rock.
