‘Wonderfully horrible, awful’ dresses key in new play

In the play “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress,” five very different bridesmaids find common ground while avoiding the “happy occasion.” This will be the first play by the new nonprofit company Burnin’ Daylight Productions.

The September Exhibition at the John Waldron Arts Center kicks off Friday with an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Local artists Sally Hunt, Joel Washington and Raymond Saidah are showcasing their artwork.

Man dies in motorcycle accident

A 21-year-old man died  Wednesday afternoon in a motorcycle accident after he failed to negotiate a turn on Old State Road 37.

McRobbie approves sustainability proposals

IU will announce today President Michael McRobbie has approved new proposals designed to increase sustainability, save money and allow greater cooperation between administration, academics and campus utilities.

Convention protesters cling to free speech rights, more than 300 arrested

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Katelyn Peck, a 20-year-old junior from California State University, stood with about 25 other protesters in a sea of pink. Pink dresses and umbrellas, jeweled crowns, sequined cowboy hats and pink banners formed the group’s attire, while one woman in the lead blew a whistle and ordered the march forward as mobs of media and citizens traipsed around them.

IU policy states that the University will not allow its trademark to be used to promote alcohol, among other products, but posters and signs promoting IU and Miller Lite are displayed in bars and stores throughout the city.IU spokesman Larry MacIntyre said the marketing agreement is a “problem” and the University is working to correct it.

South Korea accuses North of restoring nukes

South Korea said Wednesday that North Korea had begun restoring its nuclear facilities. But the U.S. played it down, saying the country apparently only moved some equipment out of storage.

IU-Notify system will test Friday

IU-Bloomington will conduct a test of the IU-Notify system at about noon Friday. The alert system will test messaging through telephone calls, text messages, e-mails and campus loud speakers.

IU is looking to add a new school color to the original cream and crimson – green. The effort to go green on campus is being made more simple with Indiana Sustainable Student, a newly released guide to help students become more environmentally aware and do their part while living on campus.

Orientation Programs to host first Mall Madness

Many students are stressed out this week about chemistry or calculus, but this evening there will be a much easier class: a crash course in shopping. From 5 to 9 p.m. at College Mall there will be free food and prizes ranging from a gift certificate to Blondie’s Cookies and free Chick-fil-A for a year, to the grand prize of the Target Ultimate Dorm Room.

Lupe Fiasco disappoints
