‘Eagle’ lands smoothly

Take the pace of “The Fugitive,” combine that with the plots of “Enemy of the State” and “2001: A Space Odyssey” and throw in the newest “It” actor, and you get “Eagle Eye.”  “Eagle Eye” is not as good as the movies that inspired it, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t work.



Colonial Williamsburg re-enactments are the best form of entertainment around.

“Choke” is one of the strangest books, as well as the only Chuck Palahniuk novel I’ve ever read besides “Fight Club,” so I was anxious (as I always am when good books get made into movies) to see if it was done right. Though the execution wasn’t perfect, it was a worthy adaptation of Palahniuk’s novel.


The cast of “Miracle at St. Anna” all deliver realistic and strong performances.

Spike Lee redefines the war epic

Spike Lee spins a gripping tale of love, war, God and men on a scale that is epic and still human. Though not as good as some of his other films, it is an excellent addition to the war genre. “Miracle” is well-worth seeing for anyone interested in the tales of human drama spun out of the time period.

Basketball star inducted into IU Hall of Fame

As he walked into the room, ducking his 6-foot-9 frame under the door with his 19-month-old son Jacob in his arms and his wife Maxine trailing behind him, 35-year-old Alan Henderson knew he was the big man on campus, just as he was 13 years ago when he played for IU.A former IU men’s basketball player with 12 years of NBA experience, Henderson was inducted into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday night.



Islamic Society of North America Affiliates Coordinator Rodwan Saleh leads a prayer during the breaking of the month-long Ramadan fast Tuesday night in the Forest Greenleaf quad. The annual Fast-A-Thon,  which was sponsored by the IU Muslim Student Union, promoted awareness of hunger in the community and reached out to many non-Muslims and members of the community who joined in fasting for the day.

As the sun went down in Bloomington on Tuesday night, about 200 people gathered in the Forest Greenleaf dining room to celebrate the end of the month of Ramadan. Some of them were Muslim – a majority of them were not – but they all participated in Fast-A-Thon and spent the day without food to raise money for the hungry people in Bloomington.


Doctorate student Wolodymyr Smishkewych and his son Ilani Smishkewych-Kosovske participated in the Tashlikh ceremony as a part of the Jewish High Holiday of Rosh Hashanah on Tuesday at the Jordan River. The symbolic tossing of the bread is the "casting off" of ones sins.

For many Jewish students, the meals and services Hillel offers during the High Holidays are a good substitute for their home holiday traditions. Jamie Greenberg, a freshman from Los Angeles, had tears in her eyes when asked what it was like to be away from home during Rosh Hashanah.
