Artist: Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s
Song: “A Children’s Crusade on Acid”

If “A Children’s Crusade on Acid” is any indication, Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s’ upcoming album Animal and Not Animal will launch them into the mainstream. Richard Edwards’ soulful lyrics and voice, as well as strong piano and drums, drive the song into the realm of greatness.

Song: “Canker”

Rolling guitar riffs, pounding bass notes and clashing symbols come together to produce a funk-infused ’70s-rock sound in “Canker,” from Bloomington-based band The Founders’ debut album Exile in Charon. Most impressive are the guitar solos, which are some of the most intricate I’ve heard in contemporary music.

Artist: Daniel Powter
Song: ”Next Plane Home”

Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Powter returns after the success of his mega hit “Bad Day” from his last album. The pianosmith’s new song, “Next Plane Home,” begins with a moving piano arrangement until the explosive chorus where a little distorted guitar breaks in. Powter’s voice soars throughout this piece, putting it over the top.
