GLBT panel discusses double discrimination

Modern take on play doesn't live up to script

Although classic theatrical productions typically appeal to an older audience, Monroe County Civic Theater's production of "La Celestina" defies the standard, modifying an ancient story and attracting a younger crowd Friday. "It's fun seeing young people doing a classic show," audience member David Goodrum said. "It would be interesting to know why they chose this play for their production."

CUE programs to 'challenge student apathy'

SRSC program raises funds for violence prevention

The Student Recreational Sports Center played host Friday to the first annual Fitness Against Violence program, raising more than $6,000 for Middle Way House. Methamphetamine use rising, authorities say

But methamphetamine abuse is a growing problem in many suburban and rural areas, law enforcement officials say. According to the 2000 annual report of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, an unprecedented 9.4 million Americans experimented with the drug in 1999.

Bush supporters react to protesters in Washington

WASHINGTON D.C. -- The cold rain that fell on the nation's capital Saturday could soak through your gloves and make your hands numb in less than 10 minutes. It was enough to make protesters think twice before leaving their hotel rooms. The protesters gathered in front of the Supreme Court, shouting, "What do we want? Justice. When do we want it? Now." They carried signs; some were serious --"Hail to the Thief" -- some not so serious -- "Four years of hee-haw."

Ameritech proposes plan to fix problems

Under pressure from the Indiana General Assembly, Ameritech has proposed a plan to resolve complaints about poor service, including disconnected phone lines. According to Federal Communications Commission statistics, Ameritech Indiana's average repair time was 28.9 hours for residential customers -- longer than any other major phone company in the United States.

Gables auctions off memorabilia

Diverse group protests inauguration

WASHINGTON -- We came to support Bush some came to see the spectacle, but in the early morning hours, people along the inaugural parade route had other intentions. The crowd of protesters grew restless after two hours of waiting in the rain. Early reports said Pennsylvania Avenue was controlled by protesters and that there were few Bush supporters in attendance on the street.

Errors in textbooks reflect poor system

I know what you are thinking, "stupid journalism major," but this is not the case. The above examples are just some of the errors found in the textbooks being used by students in this country.

Trustee needs to be one of us

Next week, the student body presidents of all campuses and the governor will begin the process to find a new student trustee for the University. In that search, they should look for the most qualified candidate. And those qualifications must include that the student be from the Bloomington campus and that he or she have gone through the undergraduate experience here.

This is a historic week for the United States. The 10th anniversary of the Gulf War was recently commemorated. This was the war that sent Iraq out of Kuwait and former president George Bush's approval rating to its highest. Teachers, parents win fight for better pay
