'FX Policy' to officially begin

While it was approved in 1994, the Forgiveness Policy, or FX Policy, will officially begin in the upcoming fall semester. This policy allows students to retake a class and replace their first grade with the second attempt. Under the current policy, students may only retake a class if they received an F in the course.

RPS to open health food-oriented stores

Although Residential Programs and Services will close three residential dining facilities next fall, a new eating option will be made available to students. RPS has decided to open a new health food-oriented store in both Wright and McNutt Quads called Gaea's Cornucopia. It will be a small shop providing a juice bar, sandwiches, homemade bread, a large salad bar, soups and frozen entrees.

Police say a man who allegedly molested a 10-year-old female is in their custody. According to police reports, the incident occurred in November 2000.

Davis should stay

The fans say it. The players back it. IU's greatest athletes agree. After Wednesday's victory against Minnesota, the following quotes were heard: Fans: "Keep Mike Davis." Junior Kirk Haston: "I want to introduce, as far as the players are concerned, our head coach for next season, Mike Davis."

Money wasted on medical research

Lately, I've been told everything I do is going to kill me. I can't smoke, drink, eat meat or play with loaded handguns. Even sex can kill me, or so I'm told. Everything seems to cause cancer. And as if that's not enough, if the Catholic church is right, I'm about to go blind.

Jeffries, Haston receive Big Ten honors

The know-it-alls of men's basketball -- coaches and select media -- put their numbers and notes together this weekend and came up with the Big Ten's elite men's basketball players. Near the top of the list was freshman forward Jared Jeffries, who was unanimously chosen Big Ten Freshman of the Year. With a tattoo that reads, "King of the Court" and the best numbers of any freshman in the Big Ten, there was little doubt of Jeffries' confidence or talent. But if IU interim head coach Mike Davis had the last word, there's no question junior center Kirk Haston would've been named Player of the Year, an honor that went to Illinois sophomore guard Frank Williams.

Student online registration made available

Soon the long lines waiting to register at Franklin Hall will be a distant memory. So will the endless telephone voice menus to drop a class. Now registration is just a click away. University officials announced last week that students will be able to register for their fall 2001 courses at a new Web site, regweb.indiana.edu. The Web site adapts the computer system that has been used in the registration center to the Internet.

Honegger kicked off team

Rachael Honegger, the women's basketball player who was convicted in October of forgery, was dismissed from the women's basketball team after she was arrested Sunday. She was arrested for violating house arrest from the original forgery conviction, police said. Honegger was arrested at 1:16 p.m. Sunday on the 3900 block of West Roll Avenue, said Capt. Joe Qualters of the Bloomington Police Department. Judge David Welch issued a warrant for her arrest, Qualters said.

Rap artist Nelly to play Little 500

Union Board said Monday that rap artist Nelly, who made a name for himself with "Country Grammar," will headline Union Board's annual Little 500 concert April 18 at the IU Auditorium. Prominent jazz musician Wynton Marsalis will also perform April 26 at the Auditorium.

Women's specialty retailer Paul Harris, based in Indianapolis, declared bankruptcy in 1991. After cutting back on production costs, it pulled out of its financial difficulties. It filed for bankruptcy again in October, and this time it had no such luck.

Football recruit arrested for DWI

One of football coach Cam Cameron's 22 recruits was arrested Saturday and charged with driving while intoxicated. Willie L. Northern, 21, a resident of 1101 N. Fee Lane, was booked into Monroe County Correctional Center at 12:17 a.m. Saturday. He was released on $500 cash bond and $1,000 surety. Northern would not comment on the arrest.
