Annual writers’ conference set for June 14 to 19

The annual Writers’ Conference at IU-Bloomington, now celebrating its 69th year, will welcome eight nationally renowned writers to Bloomington June 14-19 for a week-long festival of classes, workshops and readings.

California high court upholds gay marriage ban

SAN FRANCISCO — The California Supreme Court upheld a voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage Tuesday, but it also decided that the estimated 18,000 gay couples who tied the knot before the law took effect will stay wed.

S. Ind. refuge seeks money to buy ex-mine property

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. — Managers of a southwestern Indiana wildlife refuge are hoping for enough federal funding to buy a large piece of reclaimed mine land that supporters say is key to completing the site.

Nuclear test violates UN sanctions

TOKYO – The U.S., the EU and Russia condemned North Korea's reported nuclear test Monday as a violation of U.N. resolutions and promised to take the isolated regime before the Security Council. Even China joined the chorus of disapproval, saying it "resolutely opposed" the test.

Hoosiers headed to Louisville for NCAA Regional

The Hoosiers will be a four-seed in the NCAA Regional in Louisville, far and away their closest possible destination. No. 1-seed Louisville will be IU’s first opponent, with games beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, according to Louisville’s Web site.

INDIANAPOLIS – Helio Castroneves was facing jail time five weeks ago, but on Sunday, he was face to face with a jug of milk. Castroneves won the 93rd Indianapolis 500, becoming the first foreign-born driver to win three titles.
