New Indiana Silver Alert system has been used 5 times

The state's new Silver Alert system to help find missing adults with dementia or other problems has been used five times since the law authorizing it went into effect July 1, and officials expect the alerts will be issued even more as more people battle Alzheimer's disease.

BAINBRIDGE, Ind. — Republican Mitch Daniels has repeatedly insisted that his 2008 run for a second term as Indiana's governor was his last election and that he's not interested in the "savagery" of a national campaign. But like it or not, Daniels' name is being dropped in conservative GOP circles as someone to watch in 2012.

Notre Dame buildings evacuated because of smoke

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Several buildings at the University of Notre Dame have been evacuated because of heavy smoke caused by a fire in an underground utility tunnel near the center of campus.
