A history lesson for Hoosiers in Big Ten Tournament

The IU women’s basketball team enters the Big Ten Tournament, which will take place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, with a chance for its second conference win in three games after losing 14 straight to start the conference schedule. The No. 12 Hoosiers will face off against the No. 5 Michigan State Spartans tonight 25 minutes after the end of the 6 p.m. Minnesota vs. Wisconsin game.  Here’s a look at the Hoosiers and their history in the Big Ten Tournament.

Tom Crean was shorter than expected. That is what surprised senior forward Tom Pritchard the most on his first day at IU. Not the scandal that rocked the foundations of Indiana basketball to spawn an unprecedented rebuilding project. Not that the squad he would be playing on was bringing back a combined average of just 12.8 minutes and 1.6 points per game from the prior season in Kyle Taber and Brett Finklemeier.

Arrests made in prescription fraud case

Detective Jason Shaevitz of the Bloomington Police Department had enough evidence to make an arrest Tuesday in a long-term investigation. Shaevitz is currently investigating several complaints of possible prescription fraud in Bloomington, Sgt. Steve Kellams said.

Excise police initiates program

The new program by the Indiana State Excise Police, which involves more plainclothes officers at bars and liquor stores, as well as patrols looking for noise complaints and underage drinking parties, started Feb. 6. and will run through the rest of spring semester.
